Only Think the Best of Your Children

Think the Best of Your Children. One of the greatest gifts you can give your children is not only your love or your provision, it is the quality of your thoughts about them.

Thoughts are powerful. They influence our words, shape our attitudes, and determine how we respond to the people we love. That is why, as parents, we must be careful about the kind of thoughts we allow to occupy our minds, especially when it comes to our children.

As Uncle Olu, the Kiddies Pilot, I have seen that many parents genuinely love their children, yet they constantly worry about the worst possible outcomes. Sometimes, difficult circumstances can cause us to consciously or unconsciously dwell on negative thoughts. When those thoughts become a repeated pattern, they begin to affect the way we speak to our children, pray for them, and relate with them.

Guard your mind against constantly imagining the worst.

Don’t keep thinking your child could sleep and never wake up. Don’t constantly imagine them being attacked on their way to school. Don’t dwell on thoughts of them becoming orphans. Don’t expect them to be rejected by their peers or become victims of the problems in society.

Instead, choose to think differently.

Always think the best of your children, regardless of how they behave at the moment. Never allow their present challenges to become the permanent picture you carry in your mind. The more it seems they are drifting from the right path, the more you should intentionally see them growing in wisdom, making good choices, and becoming responsible individuals.

The picture you consistently hold in your heart will influence the words you speak, the prayers you pray, and the encouragement you give. These, in turn, help create an environment where your child can thrive.

Think of your children as:

Children who will always be favoured.
Children who will overcome life’s challenges.
Future leaders who will make a positive impact.
Children who will stand firm against negative influences.
Children who will grow in wisdom, character, and confidence.
Children who will be protected and guided by God.
Children who will fulfil their God-given purpose.

This does not mean ignoring reality or pretending challenges do not exist. Rather, it means choosing faith over fear, hope over worry, and encouragement over discouragement.

As parents, let your thoughts inspire your words, your prayers, and your actions. Speak life into your children. Believe in their potential. See beyond today’s struggles and focus on the greatness God has placed inside them.

Do all you can never to entertain negative thoughts about your children. Fill your heart with hope, your mouth with words of encouragement, and your home with an atmosphere of love and faith.

When you consistently think the best, speak the best, and invest the best in your children, you create the kind of environment where they can grow into the exceptional individuals they were created to be.

Remember, every exceptional child first had someone who believed in them. Let that person be you.
