Unique Characteristics of Infants

This is the most sensitive and foundational stage of life. In this stage, your baby is not being “spoilt” ,your baby is being formed.

At this stage:

  • The brain develops faster than at any other time in life.

  • Babies communicate through crying, cooing, smiling and body movements.

  • They depend 100% on caregivers for survival.

  • They are developing trust (Is the world safe? Can I trust my caregiver?).

  • They begin to recognize voices, especially mummy and daddy.

  • By 6–9 months, stranger anxiety may begin.

  • By 9–12 months, crawling, standing and first words may emerge.

Every touch, every response, every smile is shaping your child’s emotional security.

Uncle Olu’s Expert Parenting Tips for Infants

1. Respond Quickly and Lovingly

You cannot “spoil” a baby with love. Prompt response builds security and confidence.

2. Talk, Sing and Pray Over Your Baby

Even before they understand words, they absorb tone and emotion. Speak life. Read short scriptures. Sing nursery rhymes.

3. Practice Eye Contact

When feeding or changing diapers, look into their eyes. This strengthens bonding and attachment.

4. Establish Gentle Routines

Predictable sleep and feeding routines create emotional stability.

5. Protect Their Environment

Limit overstimulation. Too much noise and screen exposure can overwhelm an infant’s developing brain.

At this stage, your assignment as a parent is simple:
Provide love, safety, consistency and presence.

Dear Parent!

Every stage is different.
Every stage is temporary.
Every stage requires wisdom.

As a foremost early childhood educator and parenting coach, I help parents understand that raising children is not guesswork, it is guided by knowledge, intentionality and grace.

When you understand the stage, you respond with wisdom instead of frustration.

And that is how we raise excellent, emotionally stable and God-fearing children.

What parents say about Uncle Olu

Uncle Olu is simply amazing and I really love one of his books ''Going to School"

Going to school is a handbook worth having for parents and wards alike. it is a preparatory tool, well put together by Olumide to provide a near life experiences aimed at offering a smooth transition from the Elementary level to the secondary level in whatever form, either as a boarding house student or day student.

The book is beautifully woven in a story telling manner which makes an interesting read. it is also a dialogue, thereby bringing to life the experiences of Olu and Dare in a lively conversation well moderated by Uncle School.

I recommend this book to pupils preparing to transition to secondary school. Going to school will assist them a great deal to have a peep into a different educational environment from the usual one they have been used to. A more independent and demanding environment where the fittest is expected to survive!
